The portrait of this girl – “British fashion icon” as they call her – I made it to order. Hence – strict selection and fixed criteria: this picture had to be positive, optimistic, trouble-free and still bearing resemblance. Especially since it was meant to be a gift to Kate Moss’ wedding, her own portrait. What a Procrustean bed for imagination, but - ok, I’ve made it. Et voilà - the bride is crazy about it! She puts the picture behind her back, right at the head of the festival table so that each of 300 poor guests could admire her portrait for all the three days. "I do not beleive in a myth about the stiff London - Turner and Shakespeare have been creating here of course and this energy is very powerful. It is certainly alive today - the energy plus the fine taste and sense of proportion. I hope that the guests of this exhibition will not only feel the expression that I’ve tried to put into my artworks, but also see the core nerve of the contemporary world in the paradoxical comparing of heroes, objects and scores - for the goal of art is "to hold the mirror up to nature", as Shakespeare said (I apologize for this solemn style).
Those heroes or artefacts that prevailed in human consciousness 50 years ago today are just small fragments of the mosaics of the contemporary mind and the majority of people have simply forgotten about them. Thus we can admire the beauty of letters of the unspoken language.

"Сейчас, в начале 21 века, когда я записываю те события почти двухвековой давности, некоторые сцены я вижу ясно, как на хорошей и чёткой фотографии, пусть коричневой и старой, но большой, достоверной, выполненной на серебряной бумаге и хорошим мастером. И всё это – с открытыми глазами, рассматривая людей в кафе или машины вокруг. Но это то, что реально было, было с нами.
